Carpenter Chapel [Extract from All Saints Writtle by Stuart Platt, pub 1992]

The Carpenter ChapelOn the South wall is the last substantial addition to the church - the Carpenter chantry with its rich stained glass window depicting scenes from the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This window was installed in 1870 by the children of Joseph and Frances Hardcastle in memory of their mother; Joseph Hardcastle had been a partner in the Writtle Brewery Company.

Built of brick in the early 16th century, it is still used for worship; from outside it can clearly be seen as a projection from the south wall.
